History of School

Music and Dance are integral part of Indian culture. To preserve and propagate Indian Music and Dance which includes both Karnatic and Hindustani Music, and Dance forms like Kathak, Bharathnatyam, Kuchipudi, Perini, the erstwhile Government of United Andhra Pradesh started institutions of Music and Dance.

The Telangana state after its formation to fulfill the dreams of Telangana people under the leadership of our Honourable Chief Minister has inherited six institutions of Music and Dance. Sri Gyana Saraswathi Government School of Music and Dance is one of the oldest Music and Dance institution in the state of Telangana. The institution was established in the year 1972 under the Department of Technical Education and presently functioning under the Department of Language & Culture, Government of Telangana. After the formation of Telangana state the School got more attention from State Government and could complete long pending construction of its own building. The school moved to its own building in May 2018 and inauguration function was graced by the presence of then Honourable Member of Parliament other dignitaries.

Government School of Music and Dance was established in Govt. Polytechnic College in 1972. During the period of 2001-02 land was allotted for constructing the own building.After the formation of Telangana State due to the keen interest taken by our present Director of Language and Culture Sri. Mamidi Harikrishna garu, the building construction progressed at rapid pace and the sanctioned budget of 35.00 Lakhs was released by Telangana State Government with which the present building construction could be completed. Smt. Anila Mutalik was the founder Principal of the institution.Some of the famous artists who served as Pricipals of the institution were Smt. Poosarla Manorama, who was a famous Violinist and Smt. Nemalikanti Suvarnalatha who is famous Kuchipudi and Bharatha Natyam artist from Kalakshetra Chennai.

Carnatic Vocal

Sri. Radha Krishna Murthy, Sri. Rama Subannahave rendered their services in Hindustani vocal section in past.Currently the section is being served by Smt. M. Anitha

Mridangam

Sri. Muthyala Rao & Sri. NageshwaraRao have rendered their services in Mridangam section.

Tabla

Sri. Pandarinath, Sri. Balakrishna and Sri. T. Krishna, Smt. Payal have rendered their services in Tabla.

Violin

Sri. Palakurthi Rama Krishna Sharma had rendered his services in Violin section.

Kuchipudi Dance

Sri. D. Prashanth Kumar is currently rendering his services in Kuchipudi Dance section

Historical Fee Structure

When the colleges and schools were working under the department of technical education admission fee was Rs.9, later on it became Rs 25, subsequent to that it was incremented to Rs 150 then it become Rs 300 after that it became Rs 450. At present for first year students the fees is Rs 1125, from second year onwards Rs 600.
